Christian joy is a good feeling in the soul, produced by the Holy Spirit, as he causes us to see the beauty of Christ in the Word and in the world.

6-12 I spelled out your character in detail
To the men and women you gave me.
They were yours in the first place;
Then you gave them to me,
And they have now done what you said.
They know now, beyond the shadow of a doubt,
That everything you gave me is firsthand from you,
For the message you gave me, I gave them;
And they took it, and were convinced
That I came from you.
They believed that you sent me.
I pray for them.
I’m not praying for the God-rejecting world
But for those you gave me,
For they are yours by right.
Everything mine is yours, and yours mine,
And my life is on display in them.
For I’m no longer going to be visible in the world;
They’ll continue in the world
While I return to you.
Holy Father, guard them as they pursue this life
That you conferred as a gift through me,
So they can be one heart and mind
As we are one heart and mind.
As long as I was with them, I guarded them
In the pursuit of the life you gave through me;
I even posted a night watch.
And not one of them got away,
Except for the rebel bent on destruction
(the exception that proved the rule of Scripture).
20-23 I’m praying not only for them
But also for those who will believe in me
Because of them and their witness about me.
The goal is for all of them to become one heart and mind—
Just as you, Father, are in me and I in you,
So they might be one heart and mind with us.
Then the world might believe that you, in fact, sent me.
The same glory you gave me, I gave them,
So they’ll be as unified and together as we are—
I in them and you in me.
Then they’ll be mature in this oneness,
And give the godless world evidence
That you’ve sent me and loved them
In the same way you’ve loved me.
John 17:6-12, 20-23 Message
5 Things to Establish Today
1. You are known by God.
13-16 Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out;
you formed me in my mother’s womb.
I thank you, High God—you’re breathtaking!
Body and soul, I am marvelously made!
I worship in adoration—what a creation!
You know me inside and out,
you know every bone in my body;
You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit,
how I was sculpted from nothing into something.
Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth;
all the stages of my life were spread out before you,
The days of my life all prepared
before I’d even lived one day.
Psalm 139:13-16 Message
2. If a situation is not good yet, it’s not over.
28 We are confident that God is able to orchestrate everything to work toward something good and beautiful when we love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan.
Romans 8:28 Voice
3. You’ve been provided with every spiritual blessing.
3-6 How blessed is God! And what a blessing he is! He’s the Father of our Master, Jesus Christ, and takes us to the high places of blessing in him. Long before he laid down earth’s foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love. Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son.
Ephesians 1:3-6 Mesage
4. There is nothing that can separate you from God.
38-39 I’m absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.
Romans 8:38-39 Message
5. God loves you as you are and where you are.
6-8 Christ arrives right on time to make this happen. He didn’t, and doesn’t, wait for us to get ready. He presented himself for this sacrificial death when we were far too weak and rebellious to do anything to get ourselves ready. And even if we hadn’t been so weak, we wouldn’t have known what to do anyway. We can understand someone dying for a person worth dying for, and we can understand how someone good and noble could inspire us to selfless sacrifice. But God put his love on the line for us by offering his Son in sacrificial death while we were of no use whatever to him.
Romans 5:6-8 Message
The bible is full of truths that can relate to every area and season of our lives. We must hear and believe these truths to keep our minds at peace. Believe these today to calm your mind, bring rest to your spirit, and infuse energy to your life!
Religion can only offer a chain for a chain. Only Jesus offers liberty.
Recently, on our trip to Mardi Gras for an outreach, I was troubled. If you’ve never been to Mardi Gras for an outreach, I recommend it. I’ve told people over and over that it was “awesome and overwhelming.” The amount of sin is overwhelming. The prospects of seeing people come to know Jesus loves them is awesome!
How sad it is that we give up on people who are just like us.
Most all of us have friends. Most all of have been hurt by friends at some point. Some of us have given up on friends that have hurt us.
We learn in the Gospels that Jesus was hurt by His friends. He surrounded Himself with 12 completely unqualified people and potentially questionable morals.
Jesus wasn’t afraid to be associated with these people. He didn’t avoid the “very appearance of evil.” He was in the world but not of it. He chose to relate to those who were outcasts, outliers, and outside.
Jesus was, and is, a master restorer.
Jesus is not impressed by our success in anything other than love.
– Shawn Bolz
What does success look like in the kingdom of God? Loving God.
What does succeeding feel like in the kingdom of God? Loving others.
What does a successful life in the kingdom of God contain? Love.
It’s love front to back.
It’s hard to believe in Jesus! To believe in Jesus fully, to believe in Jesus as more than a personal Savior, to believe in Jesus without qualifications, to believe in Jesus as God’s way to run the world, to believe in Jesus and his Sermon on the Mount, to believe in Jesus as the unimagined solution for a world gone wrong and not as merely chaplain or cheerleader for our favorite version of the status quo is very hard to do.
Brian Zahnd, A Farewell to Mars
It’s said that “Jesus is perfect theology.” Amen. That is a loaded statement and there’s a lot to unpack in that one short sentence. But if we believe that Jesus is the exact image of God then we should expect to see Heaven in our lives and on earth.
The Christian life is not about pleasing God the finger-shaker and judge. It is not about believing now or being good now for the sake of heaven later. It is about entering a relationship in the present that begins to change everything now. Spirituality is about this process: the opening of the heart to the God who is already here.
For so long I believed that salvation was basically a way to “not go to Hell.” I never saw it for what it really is, restoration. Restoration, reunion, and reconciliation.
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
