Have you ever had to start a campfire? Have you noticed that wood that is the most dry/dead is the best to catch fire? This was a revelation to me this morning. The more I die to my flesh and sinful desires, the more ready I am for the fire of God. But, sometimes even dead and dry wood is hard to burn, that’s why sometimes we may have to add an accelerant. For me the accelerant is the Bible. The more I read and meditate on God’s word, the more I am receptive to the flame of Holy Spirit.
Many times as much as I desire the Word and the Fire, often I am not as dead and ready to burn as I know I can be. I must choose a life of burning. I must choose a life of dying. What a paradox. To burn, I must die. For me the two are so intertwined they are almost one in the same. Burning= dying.
God, I commit once again to live in death. I commit to receiving your burning. Whatever you point out to cut out I will cut away. I choose death to have life.
