No matter how tattered a heart becomes by the punches of life, Jesus has never encountered an impossible case.

Heart hurt is an interesting phenomena, for some it is life-crushing and to others it’s crippling, and yet others it’s unexplainable. I’ve experienced my own heart hurt. I’ve managed to recover, but it’s not easy. What do I mean by heart hurt? It could be called depression, offense, bitterness, or frustration. What ever you want to call it, it’s not fun and no one wants it. I want you to know that it’s OK to not be OK, but it’s not OK to stay there.

So, how do you deal with it and try function? Let’s dive in.

So what do you do? How do you function on a daily basis? If we are going to understand how to function on a daily basis with heart hurt, we have to understand what the cause is.

The cause could be anything:

  • Someone didn’t speak to you and you thought they should
  • Someone close to you leaves (death, geographically, emotionally)
  • Life change situations (job change, family change, moving geographically)
  • You’ve made up a scenario in your mind that hasn’t happened

The cause doesn’t matter as much as how you deal with it. Yes, the severities will vary but the fix is always the same.

Heart hurt’s goal is not to hurt you, it’s to take your eyes off of the Healer of your heart. It’s secondary goal is to isolate you from people and make you feel alone.

The experience of being moved by heart hurt should move us closer to the Healer.

“I had learned from years of dealing with heart-pain incorrectly—through trying to hide it, numb it, or avoid it—that pain never goes away on its own. It must be felt, embraced, and brought to a Healer.”

Christa Black Gifford, HEART MADE WHOLE

I know, this sounds so easy but practically this is a long, hard process.

So, this process of allowing God to heal your heart hurt is just that, a process. I believe 100% that His process could take a moment, but He has a process for you. God doesn’t deal in “cookie-cutters.”

Your situation is your situation. The good news is that God is your healer in your situation. He is right there in the middle of the heart hurt with you. He has a way of healing your situation. But really, He may not fix the situation but He will fix you!

Daily. Every Day. Consistency. Over and over.

So how do you function while in the process of dealing with heart hurt? You simply keep going. Crappy advice on the surface, I know. But if you’ve given the situation and your heart to God to fix what else can you do? Nothing. If you continue to dwell on it or try to fix it yourself, God will remove His hands.

As long as you trust the Master Healer with your heart, you can make it through today. But maybe the idea of today, maybe you can deal with right now. Trust God with your right now.

He heals the brokenhearted
And binds up their wounds [healing their pain and comforting their sorrow].
