Joy is the simplest form of gratitude.

Karl Barth

Joy is my favorite. I love the way the joy of the Lord makes me feel. But, it’s just not about me. It’s about Jesus.

“These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.”
‭‭John‬ ‭15:11‬ ‭ESV‬‬

See? The joy that we have is His joy in us and it is FULL! His joy fills us and overflows! It’s not something that we have to work up or wait until that “special moment” in a “special service” to feel the joy. It’s available 24/7/365!

Joy is the Spirit in us directing our attention to the finished work of Christ on our behalf! How can we not look at the scope of what Jesus accomplished and not be filled with joy?

Therefore, as Barth said, joy is gratitude!

Having joy in our life is a living a “thank you” to God!

Thank You

So, how does this work? How do I live a thank you life?

It’s a habit. It’s a muscle. It must be used.

Have you ever stubbed your toe on a piece of furniture? I have. It sucks. Have you, like me, done it more than once on the same piece? Guilty.

What’s the solution? Rearrange the furniture or remember to pay attention?

Pay Attention

That’s how you live a thank you life! We must have all of our attention wrapped around the glory of Christ!

Now, I’m not saying that you have to quit your job and walk, out on friends and family, and simply look at Jesus. Not at all. But what you can do it remember that Jesus is with you at ALL times! That simple refocus of attention is the key to living a life full of joy, a thank you life!
