O, to grace how great a debtor
daily I’m constrained to be!
Let thy goodness, like a fetter,
bind my wandering heart to thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
prone to leave the God I love;
here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
seal it for thy courts above.

Robert Robinson

What’s our connector to God’s goodness? What’s the thing that keeps us “with” God?

Mr. Robinson says it’s His goodness. But, Mr. Robinson isn’t alone. He’s simply joining in the with the Apostle Paul.

Paul while speaking to the church in Rome told them to not forgot why we have God’s goodness.

Do you take the kindness of God for granted? Do you see His patience and tolerance as signs that He is a pushover when it comes to sin? How could you not know that His kindness is guiding our hearts to turn away from distractions and habitual sin to walk a new path?

Romans 2:4

It’s His goodness that leads us home like breadcrumbs out of a dark forest. His goodness, like a well-trained horseman leading a young and stubborn colt through a storm to safety. Goodness, like Moses guiding Israel through the Red Sea.

Throughout the book of Psalms tells of God’s goodness over and over. If God is good then goodness is what He does. One of my personal favorites is Psalm 23 in the Passion Translation.

1God is my Fierce Protector and my Pastor. I always have more than enough.
2He provides a resting place for me In His luxury-love. His tracks take me to the quiet brooks of bliss, The oasis of peace.
3That’s where He restores and revives my life. He opens before me the pathways to God’s pleasure, Leading me along in His footsteps of righteousness, So that I can bring honor to His name.
4Lord, even when Your path takes me through The valley of deepest darkness You remain close to me and lead me through it all the way. Because You are with me I have no fear of danger! Your authority is my strength and peace. The comfort of Your love takes away my fear. I’ll never be lonely for You are near.
5You become my delicious feast Even when my enemies dare to fight. You anoint me with the fragrance of Your Holy Spirit; You give me all I can drink of You until my heart overflows.
6So why would I fear the future? For Your goodness and unfailing love Will always be my companions every day; Then afterward—when my life is through I’ll return to Your glorious presence To be forever with You!

His goodness has our best interest at heart although it may not always seem like it. If you can settle that God is good and He uses His goodness to help us become who we are designed to be, every circumstance looks different.

His goodness leads us into the understanding that He is good.
