My daily goal should be to live in the fully-known smile of God. He’s always smiling at me, I may just not always realize it.
I remember when I was a kid, going to an older couple home and in between their La-Z-Boy’s was a big bowl of candy. A whole bowl! Ready and waiting to be eaten. The Psalmist David says of God that He has endless pleasures at His right hand. I think it looks something like that bowl and the La-Z-Boy’s.
If I really believe that God has a bowl of endless pleasures within a hands reach, that must mean He’s happy. He’s smiling. He’s good.
I want to know that smile. I want the His laugh-lines around His eyes to crystallize in my mind. I want the memory of the smile creases at His cheeks to bubble up in my mind when I feel down.
Smile of Love
The smile that is on our Father’s face is always there but is not the creepy smile of the Joker. This smile is one of joy in His creation, pride, the good kind, in His children.
Heart of Love
Smiles can be faked. You can “put on” a smile. But, you can always tell when a smile isn’t genuine. A smile that comes from the heart and that heart is full of love is infectious.
Realization of Love
This can be a little tricky. He loves. He shows us that he loves us. But, are we always aware of his love? How can be aware? Can we fully realize it?
I think the answer is yes. I haven’t done this yet, but I’m meditating on these scriptures. Join me on this journey of daily “smile-gazing.“
38 For I am convinced [and continue to be convinced—beyond any doubt] that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present and threatening, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the [unlimited] love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
3 God told them, “I’ve never quit loving you and never will.
Expect love, love, and more love!
16 May He grant you out of the riches of His glory, to be strengthened and spiritually energized with power through His Spirit in your inner self, [indwelling your innermost being and personality], 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through your faith. And may you, having been [deeply] rooted and [securely] grounded in love, 18 be fully capable of comprehending with all the saints (God’s people) the width and length and height and depth of His love [fully experiencing that amazing, endless love]; 19 and [that you may come] to know [practically, through personal experience] the love of Christ which far surpasses [mere] knowledge [without experience], that you may be filled up [throughout your being] to all the fullness of God [so that you may have the richest experience of God’s presence in your lives, completely filled and flooded with God Himself].
