When You Find Your Tribe Your Life Is More Awesome

Find your tribe and love them hard.

Finding your tribe can take a while. Finding your tribe is vital to our survival.

So, what is a tribe?

In his book Tribes, Seth Godin describes a tribe as “a group of people connected to one another, connected to a leader, and connected to an idea.”

Reunion: How To Join the Family You Never Knew

The Christian life is not about pleasing God the finger-shaker and judge. It is not about believing now or being good now for the sake of heaven later. It is about entering a relationship in the present that begins to change everything now. Spirituality is about this process: the opening of the heart to the God who is already here.

Marcus J. Borg, The God We Never Knew: Beyond Dogmatic Religion To A More Authentic Contemporary Faith

For so long I believed that salvation was basically a way to “not go to Hell.” I never saw it for what it really is, restoration. Restoration, reunion, and reconciliation.

Everlasting or How to See the Face of God

Come with me
Where chains will never bind you
(Oh, I’m ready, Fantine.)
All your grief
At last, at last behind you
Lord in Heaven
Look down on him in mercy.

Forgive me all my trespasses
And take me to your glory.

Take my hand
I’ll lead you to salvation
Take my love
For love is everlasting
And remember
The truth that once was spoken
To love another person
Is to see the face of God.

Les Misérables

There is a lot that been happening leading up to this line in the song at the end of Les Misérables. I’ll let you catch up.

I absolutely love this scene and song.  This portion of the song is between Fantine and Jean Valjean.

This last line “to love another person is to see the face of God” is a beautiful sentiment. I believe it comes from what John teaches us.

No man has at any time [yet] seen God. But if we love one another, God abides (lives and remains) in us and His love (that love which is essentially His) is brought to completion (to its full maturity, runs its full course, is perfected) in us!

1 John 4:12 AMP

If we really want to see God we must love one another. Not the trite sayings of love, but the real thing. We must love and be loved. Love is a two-way street.

Body | BobbyShirley.com

Body

Sometimes you just have to say something. Like Jeremiah, “it’s like fire shut up in my bones.” Most of the time for me it’s when I see injustices inside the church. Wrongs against the people of God and wrongs against the leaders of God’s people.

Jesus and Paul laid this whole “being a body thing” out pretty plain. Sure there are some gaps that have to be filled in to fit our lives in the 21st century, but overall there is a model. The model is, love.

Love.
Forgiveness.
Giving, and not just money.
Acceptance, with grace and truth.

We don’t hear Jesus calling out his disciples, who apparently were some pretty rough characters, for their sins. If he had, that possibly all the gospels would be full of. We do hear Jesus loving instructing them. Bearing with them while their faith is shaking and growing. Loving them while they hear revolutionary teaching. Did Jesus get frustrated at them? Seems like it. But what did He get frustrated about? Lack of faith.

Faith.

Because of the grace that God gave me, I can say to each one of you: don’t think of yourself more highly than you ought to think. Instead, be reasonable since God has measured out a portion of faith to each one of you.
Romans 12:3

See the part I highlighted above? God has given us faith. So when Jesus gets frustrated with these men who have left everything to follow Him, He does so because they aren’t using the thing He has given them.

He has given us everything we need that pertains to life and godliness. We should live and treat others with this in mind. Bearing one another’s burdens[note]Galatians 6:2[/note]. Strengthening the feeble hands and shoring up the weak knees[note]Isaiah 35:3 [/note]. Building each other up[note]1 Thessalonians 5:10-12[/note]. Loving our neighbor as ourselves[note]Mark 12:30-31[/note]. Speaking the truth in love[note]Ephesians 4:15-16[/note].

Inside | BobbyShirley.com

Inside

Since we’ve compiled this long and sorry record as sinners (both us and them) and proved that we are utterly incapable of living the glorious lives God wills for us, God did it for us. Out of sheer generosity he put us in right standing with himself. A pure gift. He got us out of the mess we’re in and restored us to where he always wanted us to be. And he did it by means of Jesus Christ.
(MESSAGE)

You see, all have sinned, and all their futile attempts to reach God in His glory fail. Yet they are now saved and set right by His free gift of grace through the redemption available only in Jesus the Anointed.
(VOICE)

Since all have sinned and are falling short of the honor and glory which God bestows and receives.
[All] are justified and made upright and in right standing with God, freely and gratuitously by His grace (His unmerited favor and mercy), through the redemption which is [provided] in Christ Jesus
(AMPLIFIED)

Because all people have sinned, they have fallen short of God’s glory. They receive God’s approval freely by an act of his kindness through the price Christ Jesus paid to set us free from sin.
(GW)

All have sinned and fall short of God’s glory, but all are treated as righteous freely by his grace because of a ransom that was paid by Christ Jesus.
(CEB)

Everyone has sinned and is far away from God’s saving presence. But by the free gift of God’s grace all are put right with him through Christ Jesus, who sets them free.
(GNT)

Everyone is in the same boat; their distorted behavior is proof of a lost blueprint.
Jesus Christ is proof of God’s grace gift; he redeemed the glory of God in human life; mankind condemned is now mankind justified because of the ransom paid by Christ Jesus!
(MIRROR)

Romans 3:23-24

I hope this helps get the paint the picture that through Jesus your sins are cancelled and you’ve been brought inside the family. His design from the beginning was a family. His will from the start was you, perfected. Now, because of Jesus’ finished work of the cross, that’s exactly how he sees you.

Perfect family.
