Establish: How To Calm Your Mind

5 Things to Establish Today

1. You are known by God.

13-16 Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out;
you formed me in my mother’s womb.
I thank you, High God—you’re breathtaking!
Body and soul, I am marvelously made!
I worship in adoration—what a creation!
You know me inside and out,
you know every bone in my body;
You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit,
how I was sculpted from nothing into something.
Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth;
all the stages of my life were spread out before you,
The days of my life all prepared
before I’d even lived one day.
Psalm 139:13-16 Message

2. If a situation is not good yet, it’s not over.

28 We are confident that God is able to orchestrate everything to work toward something good and beautiful when we love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan.

Romans 8:28 Voice

3. You’ve been provided with every spiritual blessing.

3-6 How blessed is God! And what a blessing he is! He’s the Father of our Master, Jesus Christ, and takes us to the high places of blessing in him. Long before he laid down earth’s foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love. Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son.

Ephesians 1:3-6 Mesage

4. There is nothing that can separate you from God.

38-39 I’m absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.

Romans 8:38-39 Message

5. God loves you as you are and where you are.

6-8 Christ arrives right on time to make this happen. He didn’t, and doesn’t, wait for us to get ready. He presented himself for this sacrificial death when we were far too weak and rebellious to do anything to get ourselves ready. And even if we hadn’t been so weak, we wouldn’t have known what to do anyway. We can understand someone dying for a person worth dying for, and we can understand how someone good and noble could inspire us to selfless sacrifice. But God put his love on the line for us by offering his Son in sacrificial death while we were of no use whatever to him.

Romans 5:6-8 Message

The bible is full of truths that can relate to every area and season of our lives. We must hear and believe these truths to keep our minds at peace. Believe these today to calm your mind, bring rest to your spirit, and infuse energy to your life!

Create or How To Listen to the Architect

“The lost beauty of God’s good creation is what is recovered in the Incarnation.”

Brian Zahnd, Beauty Will Save the World: Rediscovering the Allure and Mystery of Christianity

We are approaching Christmas. Some will say “Yay”, others will groan. I love Christmas! Probably, because one of my primary love languages is receiving gifts. But, another reason I love the Christmas season is celebrating the incarnation of Jesus.

The incarnation of Jesus is such an incredibly huge and deep topic that I could only to hope to scratch the surface.

Leads

O, to grace how great a debtor
daily I’m constrained to be!
Let thy goodness, like a fetter,
bind my wandering heart to thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
prone to leave the God I love;
here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
seal it for thy courts above.

Robert Robinson

What’s our connector to God’s goodness? What’s the thing that keeps us “with” God?

Whole

If we are new creations in Christ, our entire being is good, and we need to learn how to manage it to be well.

Kris Vallotton

Kris came to the Ramp last night and spoke on being whole. This message helped to really shape Anna and me this year. One of my favorite quotes is:

When Jesus healed people, He healed in a way so that the person would become a whole person.

Jesus doesn’t just care that we are well physically and spiritually, He wants us well emotionally also.

Good

“Original sin” is not the foundation of human being. Prior to what we call “original sin” is original goodness. God said so. So cheer up.

Brian Zahnd

Original sin.This topic is a super deep theological discussion that I do not want to dive into here. I love this quote because I think Brian sums up what has been rolling around my brain for a few years.

The story of creation shows us that at humanity’s inception God said we were very good. Now, we all know that sin entered the world and the rest as they say is history. But, let’s not move past what God has spoken. Let’s only move further into what He has said. Let it seep into every fiber of who you are and what you do.

He sees you as good. He spoke it from the beginning. Sure, sin had it’s way. Sure, you let it take you with it. But, you are good. Because of Jesus and his ever-flowing grace, God sees you as good.

Rest here.
