Stay focused on what’s above, not on earthly things, because your old life is dead and gone. Your new life is now hidden, enmeshed with the Anointed who is in God.
The word that Paul uses for hidden means, “to conceal (that it may not become known).” So, now that our new life is concealed in God we are to keep focused on things that are above.
When he’s talking about “above things” he doesn’t necessarily mean things involving Heaven like angels and harps. He means things that are above, where we are. We are seated with Christ in Heavenly places, far above all things. So, keep your perspective. You must start thinking from Heaven to Earth.
The phrase that Paul uses to communicate the idea of focus means “to have understanding.” He wants us to gain an understanding of our new life in Christ. The old you is dead and gone. Planted together with Christ in the garden of His death.
