You Need to Believe What You Preach

You Need to Believe What You Preach

Eventually, how you live will “out preach” what you preach. Preach what you live.

Jesus is famous for a lot of things. Healing the sick. Raising the dead. Casting out devils. Dying for our sins. Being raised from the dead. Ascending to the Father.

He’s also pretty famous for how He interacted with the Pharisees. Let’s talk about that.

Let’s state this up front: Jesus loves everyone.

School: 3 Things I Unlearned When I Found Grace

It’s amazing how simple and straightforward the naked gospel really is. In fact, most of my exposure to the New has involved more unlearning than learning. Once we remove the clutter from our theological closet, the gospel shines brightly again.

Andrew Farley, The Naked Gospel

The tricky thing about the true gospel is that it does not play well with others. I don’t mean the gospel gets mad and decides to take it’s ball and go home. When the true gospel shows up at the playground the bullies take off and if one of them tries to hang around the gospel makes them some uncomfortable that they choose to leave.

The day I finally gave up and accepted grace was the day my unlearning started. I wanted to receive rest and I received rest and an un-education. This journey of unlearning has been the best thing I’ve ever experienced. Let me tell you what I’ve learned.

Seeds: How To Plant to Get the Most Fruit

Seeds produce trees. Trees produce fruit. Fruit feeds people.

Bobby Shirley

Once you can get off the floor from this amazing revelation, let’s talk.

You can’t really tell what kind of tree comes from a seed. You can’t tell the amount of fruit that will come from a seed. You never know where the pollen will travel that comes from a seed.

Different: Three Things We Get Wrong about the Gospel

This is a guest post by my friend, Blaise Foret. You can learn more about him and all that he’s involved with at the end of this post.

Religion and Jesus are often confused for one another. And I don’t blame people for making this mistake because so often the most religiously minded people use the name of Jesus to justify their ideas.

But the truth is Jesus Christ and ole’ time religion are very different.

Pardon: How To Unnerve People With the Truth

Forgiveness, or pardon, is not heaven any more than a medicine is health. Pardon is proclaimed freely and universally; it is perfectly gratuitous, unconditional and unlimited. But heaven is limited to those who are sanctified by the belief of the pardon.
Thomas Erskine, The Unconditional Freeness of the Gospel

While deep down I believe this statement, it still makes me a little nervous. It doesn’t make me nervous because of the potentiality that it’s a lie, but because of the potentiality that it’s the truth!

Exchange: How To Trade for Something Better

People often respond to me, “I just can’t conceive of how God can make me righteous.” I reply, “I’ve got a better question. How could God make Jesus become sin?”

Bob George, Classic Christianity

What a paradox! What irony! What an exchange!

Exchange

Yes. Precisely, exchange.

Afraid: How To Stop Beating a Dead Horse

Sin has been defeated or it hasn’t. And if sin hasn’t been defeated then I should be afraid of it.

– Danny Silk

This is a big deal. I’m still working through the truth of it. I’m settled on it, but still unpacking it.

Jesus defeated sin at the cross.

Character: How To Create a Look-Alike

6-12 I spelled out your character in detail
To the men and women you gave me.
They were yours in the first place;
Then you gave them to me,
And they have now done what you said.
They know now, beyond the shadow of a doubt,
That everything you gave me is firsthand from you,
For the message you gave me, I gave them;
And they took it, and were convinced
That I came from you.
They believed that you sent me.
I pray for them.
I’m not praying for the God-rejecting world
But for those you gave me,
For they are yours by right.
Everything mine is yours, and yours mine,
And my life is on display in them.
For I’m no longer going to be visible in the world;
They’ll continue in the world
While I return to you.
Holy Father, guard them as they pursue this life
That you conferred as a gift through me,
So they can be one heart and mind
As we are one heart and mind.
As long as I was with them, I guarded them
In the pursuit of the life you gave through me;
I even posted a night watch.
And not one of them got away,
Except for the rebel bent on destruction
(the exception that proved the rule of Scripture).

20-23 I’m praying not only for them
But also for those who will believe in me
Because of them and their witness about me.
The goal is for all of them to become one heart and mind—
Just as you, Father, are in me and I in you,
So they might be one heart and mind with us.
Then the world might believe that you, in fact, sent me.
The same glory you gave me, I gave them,
So they’ll be as unified and together as we are—
I in them and you in me.
Then they’ll be mature in this oneness,
And give the godless world evidence
That you’ve sent me and loved them
In the same way you’ve loved me.

John 17:6-12, 20-23 Message

Establish: How To Calm Your Mind

5 Things to Establish Today

1. You are known by God.

13-16 Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out;
you formed me in my mother’s womb.
I thank you, High God—you’re breathtaking!
Body and soul, I am marvelously made!
I worship in adoration—what a creation!
You know me inside and out,
you know every bone in my body;
You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit,
how I was sculpted from nothing into something.
Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth;
all the stages of my life were spread out before you,
The days of my life all prepared
before I’d even lived one day.
Psalm 139:13-16 Message

2. If a situation is not good yet, it’s not over.

28 We are confident that God is able to orchestrate everything to work toward something good and beautiful when we love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan.

Romans 8:28 Voice

3. You’ve been provided with every spiritual blessing.

3-6 How blessed is God! And what a blessing he is! He’s the Father of our Master, Jesus Christ, and takes us to the high places of blessing in him. Long before he laid down earth’s foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love. Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son.

Ephesians 1:3-6 Mesage

4. There is nothing that can separate you from God.

38-39 I’m absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.

Romans 8:38-39 Message

5. God loves you as you are and where you are.

6-8 Christ arrives right on time to make this happen. He didn’t, and doesn’t, wait for us to get ready. He presented himself for this sacrificial death when we were far too weak and rebellious to do anything to get ourselves ready. And even if we hadn’t been so weak, we wouldn’t have known what to do anyway. We can understand someone dying for a person worth dying for, and we can understand how someone good and noble could inspire us to selfless sacrifice. But God put his love on the line for us by offering his Son in sacrificial death while we were of no use whatever to him.

Romans 5:6-8 Message

The bible is full of truths that can relate to every area and season of our lives. We must hear and believe these truths to keep our minds at peace. Believe these today to calm your mind, bring rest to your spirit, and infuse energy to your life!
