Cure

Don’t be a doctor that only tells you how bad the different diseases are, be the one who offers the cure!

Benny Perez

Sin is bad. Try not to sin. We get it.

Constantly telling people the different kinds of sins and how bad they are is not necessarily going to make them not participate in them. You have to give the answer and show them something better. You must tell them of how grace delivers us from sin. You must tell them of how Jesus is better. You must tell them how they are dead to sin and don’t have to answer it’s call.

I’ve quoted it before, but Tullian Tchividjian has said, “Everything we need, in Christ we already possess.”

For any earthly pleasure you want there is a better heavenly alternative.  We have to train our minds and bodies to turn to the real thing rather than settling for the knock-off version.

But the bottom line is, you don’t have to sin. Will you? Odds are yes. But, there is forgiveness. There is grace. Should you continue to sin?  NO! There is grace!

Grace is not only the forgiveness of sin but the power to overcome it! That’s good news!

and from Jesus the Anointed, the Witness who is true and faithful, the first to emerge from death’s cold womb, the chosen Ruler over all the kings and rulers of the earth. To the One who loves us and liberated us from the grip of our evil deeds through His very own blood

Revelation 1:5 Voice

So here is how to picture yourself now that you have been initiated into Jesus the Anointed: you are dead to sin’s power and influence, but you are alive to God’s rule

Pleasure

The Gospel story creates, which is to say re-creates, the prelapsarian garden of Edenic pleasure, and thus Edenic joy.

Jared Wilson, Gospel Deeps

I love this quote from Mr. Wilson. His books Gospel Wakefulness and Gospel Deeps were formative for me and I have revisited them often.

The idea he is conveying is that God through the gospel is putting all things right again. He is restoring us back to the place of pleasure, Eden means pleasure. He is releasing to us the joy of our first love. What level of good news is this?!

The simple, yet profound, idea that God in Christ has fully restored us to the garden of Eden is life-changing.
